We had great fun today writing poems about how we don't like poetry! We used Joshua Seigal's poem, I Don't Like Poetry, as a model to create our own. And what was the overall decision the group made after writing this poem?
WE ALL LOVE POETRY!!!
I DON'T LIKE POETRY
I don’t like similes.
every time I try to think of one
my ears ring like big brass bells;
my head feels light like a feather;
my arms feel like blocks of lead.
I don’t like metaphors.
Whenever I attempt them
my heart buns with a raging fire;
my ears and eyes smoke intensely;
And a bee buzzes consistently in my brain.
I don’t like alliteration.
We learned about it in school
but it’s horribly, hellishly hard;
maddeningly, morosely mundane;
unsettlingly, unhelpfully, useless.
I don’t like onomatopoeia.
I wish I could blow it up
with a WALLOP! and a CRASH! and a SMASH!
a BOOM! and a CLANG! and a THUD!
a BOUNCE! and a SCREECH! and a KABOOM!!!
And I don’t like repetition
I don’t like repetition
I don’t like repetition...

I DON'T LIKE POETRY
I don't like similes.
Every time I try to think of one
my head feels like it is filled with rocks
my hands and feet feels like logs
my stomach feels like it is full of butterflies.
I don't like metaphors.
Whenever I attempt them
my forehead starts to turn into rubber
fire starts to appear inside my ears
my whole body turns into a bubble.
I don't like alliteration .
We learn about it in school
but it's tremendously,terrifying, tricky
surely stupidly silly
and unescapably annoyingly hard.
I don't like onamatopeia.
I wish I could blow it up with a CLING! and
CLANG!
and a collossal BANG!and a THUD! and a
POW! and
an amazing how did you do that? WOW!
And I don't like repetition.
I don't like repetition .......
I don't like repetition.........

I DON’T LIKE POETRY
I don’t like similes
Every time I think of one
My head feels as blank as a piece of paper
My eyes feel as squished as a crunched-up homework sheet
My legs feel as strait as a wooden pencil
I don’t like metaphors
Whenever I attempt them
Bombs explode
Arrows fire at me
All while my brain gets taken apart
I don’t like alliteration
We learnt about it in school
But its cruel commotional and confusing
Horrible horrendous and horrifying
Terribly tricky and triggering
I don’t like onomatopoeia
I wish I could blow them up
With a KABOOM a SMASH and a CRACK
A BOOM a BANG and a SKREEK
A PAW a CRASH and any other BAM noises
I don’t like repetition
I don’t like repetition
I don’t like repetition
