Treasure Hunts

We began our session with Ali giving us a word hunt story with the theme being precious metals and gemstones. Our group did amazingly well - we’d expect no less from our keen-eyed writers!

Ali then went on to tell the group that if we were in our usual spot she’d have done a treasure hunt like she did with the younger groups, which prompted an outcry. Our writers were indignant that they got to do the hunt too, so Ali left to go and set up the activity in the corridor outside while we discussed our writers’ work experience the previous week (including at BBC Solent!)

Ali returned and our hunt began. Our writers found their treasures - pieces of jewellery - and returned to craft their stories. Ali challenged us: describe finding this item, and what power it might give you. Our writers described a bracelet which gave effortless confidence, a brooch which opened a portal, and a heart necklace with the literal heart of a loved one on it.

To finish off, our writers were tasked to channel their inner Famous Five, and write about some children finding something mysterious, or perhaps a treasure. Our writers gave us people finding the precious gift of life after a nuclear apocalypse, a note uncovered in a dog’s fur, and someone hiding a letter of their own in a library book.
