This blurred life - after Alison Luterman

This blurred life - after Alison Luterman

I am caught in a watercolour kaleidoscope
of days into weeks, into months.
When I come to rest, there is no sleep
only exhaustion, and that motion sickness: uncertainty.

Another day where I failed to remain in-stride with pain.
Another week of sunrises with blue-light-fractures.
Another month were I justify the sum of my efforts
to a court of my own voices.

Tonight, beneath the spilled-paint blue-grey of pre-dawn,
my ayes have it: I declare the cycle broken.
Tomorrow, I will observe my outlines on this twenty-four-hour canvas,
live vivid, at my own pace, not Anxiety’s forced fast-forward.

This blurred life is still passing, but for now I seek the rivers
trees and birdsong I know are just a decision away; I do have time
to walk amongst them, and in doing so I am making a mark
on my terms, in my own colours, and signing my name_______
