Dreams and Opera!

Dreams and an Opera

Welcome back to the Lighthouse Young Writers!

The summer has certainly refreshed everyone's imaginations and the new school year has got us thinking about ‘the future’ a recurring theme this week.

We also welcomed some new writers to our groups this week which was very exciting. They have already produced some incredible work that we are very proud of.

The theme of this term is DREAMS and our 11-15’s wrote some beautiful poems and letters to their future selves about dreams they have had and what they dream for the future. They even wrote a collaborative poem using some of their favourite lines from their work.

I have attached their work below.

Our older group (15-18’s) had a very special workshop and guest this week teaching them how to write libretto for operas. The writer and musician Karen Wimhurst treated us to some songs from her opera Synthetica https://www.syntheticaopera.com/ a tale of how plastics were introduced too and changed the world. Our young writers have been invited to write their own libretto about the future to complete the last chapter of the opera. We will be hearing their creations set to music in next week's session!
