A New Chapter

Hello! My name is Sophie, and I’m the new assistant facilitator for the Mayflower Young Writers. I would have loved to have been a part of a group like this when I was younger, so I’m so excited that I get to be a part of it now!

I’ve always loved reading, and I’ve always written, whether that’s poetry, songs, or scripts, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve lost the motivation. I’m a third year English literature student at the University of Southampton and, while I love it, it doesn’t leave much time for writing. I hope that, by assisting the young writers, their enthusiasm will inspire me to get writing again, and remind me of the joy and wonder of writing.

My main passion, though, is theatre, so the Mayflower is the perfect place for me to be. Both of my parents went to drama school, and my sister and I have been involved in every school production we could get ourselves into. I’ve always loved the magic of theatre, and enjoyed being a part of the backstage witchcraft, so I hope I’ll be able to return the young writers’ enthusiasm and inspire them to get involved, too.

Most of all, I hope I’ll be able to encourage them to never stop writing; to never stop telling the stories that come to them, and that there’ll always be someone there to listen to them when they do.

I’m looking forward to being a part of the team, and keeping you updated on what’s going on at the Mayflower Young Writers sessions!

Speak to you soon!

Sophie :)
