The Christmas Advert

It might seem a bit early for a Christmas theme - but it's not too early for the John Lewis advert, so it's not too early for us! We started by watching the John Lewis advert for 2023, and then also the 2015 advert with the Man in the Moon (on brand for our space advert!) as inspiration to come up with our own concept for a two minute Christmas themed advert, with a compact story arc (opening/establishment of character and setting, problem, resolution), designed to move an audience to tears. Damian created this beautiful script (attached) with its powerful and urgent message - we think it should be a government message for next year!

We finished up by running through the order for next week's showcase and rehearsing introductions and any pieces we hadn't heard yet - we can't wait to share them with you all!

Christmas Advert

It starts with a close shot of the front of a 3rd floor flat in a low rise block.

The camera then goes through the flat’s window into the living room.

A female couple and their 2 children are sitting under a lit Christmas Tree opening presents.

The younger one is unwrapping a wet suit

The teenage one is unwrapping a snorkelling kit and a net

They smile at their mother.

She smiles back as she unwraps a water purifying pump.

Then she smiles at her wife and kisses her on the cheek.

Her wife smiles back then unwraps a dinghy and paddles.

Now the camera pans back out of the window then rises up into an ariel shot.

We now see that the first two floors of the block are submerged and many of the

surrounding houses only have their roofs above the waterline.

We see families on these rooftops sitting by lit Christmas Trees sharing a meal or opening

presents.

The ariel shot widens to show a flooded town filled with families celebrating on rooftops.

A text banner appears over the film “Go with the flow
