Mood Swings

We’re back! After a restful festive break, the theme of the day was moods. Ali gave our writers a worksheet and everyone picked a slip of paper with a random mood on it (joyful, relieved, sad, overexcited, etc). Our writers were challenged to fill out the sheet using the mood they had chosen, and everyone else had to guess what it was after each writer had read their work aloud. Once everyone had their moods guessed correctly Ali challenged us to do the task again with a totally opposite emotion.

To play on the idea of ‘mood swings’, Ali pitched a scenario for our writers to create a story around: someone is walking through a park feeling one way only to encounter a person on the swings that totally changes that. Our writers were asked to think about: who is it? What time is it? How does this affect the main character?

We had some great scenarios, like a person having a bad walk home from school after their bus broke down only for their mood to be lifted after they met a close friend (even though they were investigating the murder of a teacher…) and nervousness over meeting an old friend turning into being flustered when they become too overfamiliar.

It was a great start to the term, and we’re so excited to see what our writers do next!
