Cautionary Poems

Continuing on from our last session, our writers were once again looking at poetry in a beautifully air conditioned room, which we were all very glad of. This time it was about cautionary poems, rhyming stories where awful children got some sort of terrible comeuppance, such as "Little Thomas" by F. Gwynne Evans. Ali gave us some starting lines and our writers gave us stories which began with:

Darcy would not wear her shoes…

And,

Ryan always had to shout…

Both children met with a grisly end. You can read the poems in the pictures attached to the blog to find out what they were, as well as see the other starting lines.

Afterwards, we discussed a poem we read last week: Hawk Roosting. Ali got our writers to write a POV poem from the perspective of a bee or a wasp in a similar style.
