I Hope That Someone Gets My...

Ali brought forth her oceanic box of wonder and had all of our writers pick some numbered shells. Each number matched something they might discover when walking on a beach:

  1. Starfish

  2. Wood with words carved on it

  3. Ambergris

  4. A hat

  5. A whale

  6. Lifesaver ring (with SS Titanic on it)

  7. Spilt cargo

Our writers wrote us a story about how they discovered their treasures - breaking only for a morale-raising game of consequences - before they shared their work. We had many fascinating pieces, such as Mia’s protagonist who woke up in a hospital ward after hallucinating cargo on a seafront, and Rowan’s tale of a person stuck in a time loop finding a crate of ambergris and hats washed up on the beach, desperately trying to ship the items to their hat-and-ambergris obsessed loan shark.

Ali presented our writers with a message in a bottle and asked them to pen what they thought might be inside, which could be a continuation of the story they were creating before. People wrote stories to lost loves and had futuristic treasure finders selling the paper inside for a small fortune. Rowan, our writer of the week, had his protagonist writing to the sea and wondering why it didn’t reply.
