Brevity and Donuts

It’s the final day of term! Ali brought our writers some donuts both as a celebration and as inspiration for a donut-themed prompt. Our writers came up with such scenarios as:

  • Killing someone who was gluten free, vegan, and has a deadly sugar allergy by forcing a donut into their mouth

  • Humans harvesting donuts to eat them in front of their families

  • An angry protagonist, furious at a Starbucks employee because their donut did not have a hole (as it was actually a croissant)

  • Sentient donuts screaming as their flesh was bitten into

We then had a very special guest visit us: Anmarie Bowler came over from the Isle of Wight to hand out the copies of Brevity, the handbill our writers have been working towards. It’s wonderful for our participants to have a physical, tangible published copy of their work, and every contribution is fantastic. See if you can pick up a copy for yourself around the MAST! Thank you. Anmarie, for creating this zine, we appreciate all your hard work!

Finally, we took some goodbye pictures as one of our regular writers, Amelia, is heading off to university. Amelia has been a part of the group since before I (Harley) started the job, and she has always brought 100% to every prompt in her own grim and macabre fashion. I have no doubt she has a bright, bright future ahead of her, and whilst we wish her luck for her endeavours (not that she’ll need it), she will be sorely missed when we reconvene in September.

Good luck Amelia, and the blog will be back after the summer holidays!

P.S.: featured is our ultimate Frankenstory of Summer 2026, which made Ali laugh so hard she cried.
