Voice Over

More soundscapes today! Our writers filled out a voice over based fill-in fun. Our party-going main characters had such dilemmas as:

  • Wanting to go to Greggs instead

  • Making sure that their emotional support cat didn’t get too inebriated

  • Being at a funeral party for a fire smuggler

  • Having 398 lions at a party which kept eating the party-goer's limbs

We also got the fantastic line, “look at you stumbling back with that haircut, trying to make like your hairline and recede”.

Ali told our writers that in audio dramas an inner narrator can be very useful to get ideas across to an audience… but sometimes, rather than help, the voice can be a saboteur instead. We created a mind map of all the things that our inner narrator has said to us recently, some things being supportive, others pretty critical!

Our writers were challenged to write a scene where there’s an out loud conversation going on, but there’s an inner voice commenting, too. An interviewee was worried that if their boss couldn’t look after his dying desk plant he wouldn’t be able to look after their future, and two students were trying to one-up each other about revision… but our writer of the week was Isla whose main character’s inner voice was bowled over by a man trying - and failing - to flirt.

Also attached to the blog is Max's piece about Ali and me, Harley, which made me cackle.
