Jury Scripts

Given that a lot of our writers have been delayed by the roadworks in town recently, Ali opened our session with a dive into the Box of Wonder - getting our writers to pick a random prompt for why they were late and write a tall tale around it. We were given stories about being swarmed by bats; a wild boar attack near big Asda; wolves eating your shoes and bag; and a talking squirrel who definitely didn’t steal alcohol from its parents.

Then it was onto the theme of the week - our table read! As discussed last session, we are aiming to have this on the 26th to showcase some of what our writers have been working on this semester. Our writers were paired up in order to workshop a list of questions which Ali had provided, bulking out the story of the Jury and shaping what the script might look like. We were given some wonderful ways the characters might play off each other: hidden identities uncovered, reasons the other jurors might be knocked out, what drives everyone to confess their secrets.

Going off the idea that everyone had to come clean about what they were hiding, our writers each wrote a monologue of their character revealing the truth about themselves. In the end we had a great idea about what the next session will look like, and Ali will be spending her week writing a script based on everyone’s work which we will edit on the 26th before the read!
