Dinner Parties

This week, the young writers wrote about their dream dinner parties! Here are some of their descriptions:

Zoe

Overflowing plates of food cover 10 tables, which were lined with long, draping tablecloths. Space themed items hang from the ceiling and Christmas lights are strung everywhere, even though it is July. Every dish you can imagine was somewhere on the tables: cinnamon buns, ice cream of every flavour, a billion different types of cakes, even a 5 layered gooey chocolate cake! Lovely aromas float through the door at the back of the room leading to the kitchen. I pick up a plate and select food, piling my plate up to the max, then I walk over and sit down on a seat, next to Albert Einstein and look out into the vastness of space.

Hobnobs

I ate a hobnob next to you.

It was fine – a hobnob.

But it was too dry,

Luckily not so dry that I spewed crumbs when you made me laugh.

It was fine,

But it was too sweet,

Like biting into yellow, and I remember when you described a sound as red.

It was fine,

But it looked too plain,

Boring, and bumpy as Ithaca.

It was fine,

But it smelt like honey which is normally a good thing,

But I just wanted the scent of you.

And it was brown,

Like burnt honey,

Like my shoes that you complimented,

Brown like your voice,

(Do you see I’m doing it again?)

You also complimented hobnobs,

So I enjoyed it nonetheless.

The wood within the fireplace burned and crackled, heating the room with its grandeur. The windows all around were a portal to the snowy outside dream.

Red-pillowed mahogany chairs were tucked under a great oaken table, laden to the brim with eye-watering food. Silver plates, utensils, crystal goblets sat ready for use, candles burning ready for the feast. An aroma plentiful with spice floated about, roast turkeys, huge fish and chickens in the midst. Around them an extravagant crowd of crispy baked potatoes, boiled brocolis, beans, yorkshire pies and bread rolls. Salads to be eaten as ballads sung, an evening to stay in one's mind.
