Georgia and The Iceberg and Man, The Mad Magician

Junior Writers

This week the junior/young writers were very excited because NEXT week we will be going to see Dorsetborn’s new show Georgia and the Iceberg (written and directed by Rohan himself!)

To get us in the mood for the show all three workshops this week focused on writing around the themes of the show ‘climate change’ ‘pollution’ ‘the melting ice caps’ ‘unexpected friendship’.

In the junior group I found some poems for us to look at, that would hopefully inspire 2 short poems from all the writers later in the session.

The first poem was Dreamer by Brian Moses

And the second poem was Man, The Mad Magician by Andrew Fusek Peters

The Characters from Georgia and the iceberg and these pomes the junior writers were each given a book let to fill with one poem by a climate hero (a penguin character we would help them all create in a guided writing exercise) and a climate villain (Man, The Mad Magician - who we gave evil super powers to).

Here are some of the results. We were very proud of everybody's focus and quality of work today.

We can’t wait to see the show next week and meet the friendly penguin puppet!

Young Writers

This week the young writers started off with a writing exercise on ‘three items you would take to Antarctica’. They were then tasked with imagining a penguin friend and writing about how that penguin would react to their human items.

After some really fun answers we moved on to the main task for the session, writing from the perspective of an iceberg that had just flipped.

We watched a sublime and beautiful ( but quite frightening) video of a giant iceberg flipping and then using the power and impact of that video, our writers wrote some beautiful and poetic words.
