More Austen Writing!

Considering our Austen showcase is coming up in a couple of weekends, Ali gave us a list of Austenesque words & their meanings (a great example being the word “younker” which means “a young nobleman”!)

In order to give our list of words a go, Ali asked us to take a series of pre-written scenes which were set in the modern day and translate them into the Regency era. Our writers subbed visits to Krispy Kreme for patisseries, bikes for horses, and hair extensions for bonnets.

Ali then got our writers to do their own version of this task! We had ten minutes to write a “modern day” scene, and then another ten in which to make it Regency-related - for example, a trip to the cinema became a visit to the theatre. Next week we will work on the contrast between the 21st century and Regency pieces, ready to perform on the 23rd March at the MAST.
