Playground Poems

As the days grow longer and warmer, our greatest wish is to stay outdoors, play with friends, have picnics in the park.

What does your school playground look like?

The Junior Writers' Club took great pride in describing their school playgrounds - and they all sounded like such fun places to spend time with friends. Although sometimes, it can be hard as well - to not have friends to play with. Our young writers explored the many emotions they experience on the school playground.

We were inspired by Bernie Dohertie's poem, Playgrounds.

Playgrounds by Arsh Agrawal

Playgrounds are such imaginative places

Know what I mean?

Everyone seems to

Investigate, test, race and experiment new things

I mean, it’s like being in a scientific laboratory.

Playground are such well-equipped places

Know what I mean?

Everyone seems to have

Obstacle course, balancing rope, hula hoops and bikes

I mean, it’s like being in an Olympic village

Playground are such noisy places

Know what I mean?

Everyone seems to

Chat, shout, laugh, and giggle

I mean, it’s like being in a rock concert

And playground are such joyful places

Know what I mean?

Everyone seems to

Have naughty friends, share lunches, mutter, hug and play

Everyone except me. Know what I mean?

Playground by Diptanshu Dutta

When went to the playground
We swung on the swings
Slid on the slide
And had a lot of fun
I gave my parents a big cuddle
But while returning, I slipped on a puddle!

Summer Playground by Ansh Jhawar

In summer I am very glad

We children are so small,

For we can see a thousand things

That some boys don’t see at all!

They don’t know much about the moss

And all the stones they pass

They never lie and play among

The forests in the grass

They walk about all the way

I try to shout to my friend “Hey!”

Sometimes I get bumped by other people

Then, I tell a teacher and that makes it equal

My friend is always by my side

He is on my right, beside

I have a nice playground

Me and him talk a lot and make a sound

Playgrounds by Silin Alrawi

Playground are such exiting places,

Know what I mean?
Everyone seems to laugh and play
And move around
It's like a bunch of dogs cage opened.
And playgrounds are fun and jumpy places,
Every person is playing hopscotch, hide and seek and cartwheels
It's like finding a friend straight away,
Running with your uniform and sports clothes.
Playgrounds are flowery, grassy and playful.
Get what I mean?
Everyone seems to play on climbing walls,
There shoes are touching every bit of it.
Everyone is running and jumping so high,
Know what I mean? Every person  is in a gang,
Where they play and make groups  of people.
