Arguments!
Today’s session was about arguments, and we all got involved! We begun with a worksheet from Ali asking our writers to answer the following:
last thing you argued about
what makes you snap
when did you last realise you were wrong
who is most likely to change your mind
Our answers ranged from things like ‘social injustice’ or ‘being spoken down to’ getting under our skin, to confessing about being wrong about cooking times.
Ali gave a series of argument topics out and was going to get our writers to argue against each other - however due to a smaller group number, she decided to set everyone the challenge of writing for and against arguments about their chosen subject, script-style.
Our writers argued about wasps being the Black Ops of bees; footballers being paid too much feeding into toxic masculinity; and school detentions always being wrong as, much like the penal system proper, if you don’t attempt to treat the root cause the issue will continue.
They then went on to argue again! We discussed the idea of keeping £100 you find on the ground being a symptom of capitalism at large; school uniform being a symptom of sexism and victim blaming; and that dogs are better than cats.
To end the session, Ali brought out a lovely notebook which our writers had to write an argument for receiving. There were strong answers all around, but it was - as we all agreed - rightfully won by Eve.
