It’s raining again.
As puddles of grime spit up into my jogging shoes,
I huddle beneath a conker tree
And hope thunder doesn’t begin to rumble.
Across the park, a toad sits on a lilypad
enjoying
the shower
and
ribbiting.
Moist and bulbous, a pulsating mass
surrounded by fresh grown damp pond weeds
(ribbit)
A slow, clammy blink succeeds
a flick
of bullet tongue
to
consume some scurrying smorgasbord
(ribbit)
In pride, he releases
A
resounding note of contentment
(ribbit)
The rain lets up
And I go on my way
And we’re ignorant of each other.
