Desert Island Writing Exercises

DESIGN A DESERT ISLAND –

-          Give it a name

-          Landscape – sea/mountains/rivers/forests – can be magical/surreal

-          Who lives here? People or animals or aliens or any combination

-          What do they eat? Where do they live? What do they do?

-          Currency – is there money? What kind of money? How does trade work? How do people make money/obtain the goods they need?

-          Laws/rules


DESIGN THE PERFECT LEADER(S) FOR THE ISLAND –

-          What would their five main priorities be?

-          What problems would they face as leader and how would they deal with them?

-          What would be their five main skills as a leader?

Write a short story or diary entry, either from the leader or from a citizen about the leader

 

ORWELL QUOTES – Short Story/Free Writing - 

 

List of everything you did this morning – e.g. shower, eat cereal, brush teeth, pack lunch, watch TV, go on TikTok, etc.

Who or what influenced/controlled what you did? E.g. parents telling you to, teachers setting homework, advertising making you buy that cereal, social media influence, obsession with checking your phone, dentist appointment coming up, etc.

What are some good forms of control and what are some possibly bad ones?
