character descriptions in theatre writing

This week our young writers looked at 2 excerpts from the plays 'Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons' and 'The Death of Shakespeare.'
We looked at how different playwrights can communicate a lot about a character without using too much description and stage directions.
Some of our young writers had a go at performing parts of the plays themselves and realised how essential a playwrights relationship with the actor is, even though they often never meet.

Our 15-18 group will be pitching their ideas for writing projects next week and we are looking forward to seeing what they come up with. They might even be thing about plays of their own.
