This week in Mayflower Creative Writers our session, Murder Mystery, was created by new Group Leader, Holly. We also introduced the new assistant, Carla, and creative writers Tas and Reyhana.
To start us off, we had to chose one of the Newspaper clippings to inspire a 5-minute free write.
Newspaper clipping consisted of:
One Word: BUS, SEVE, SALT.
Characters Murderer/Murdered: Masked Singer, TV Host.
Paragraph with Murderous words underlined: Violent, Mountain, Hammer.
Using the story, we had to write a from the point of view as the detective and write a Fact File for the murder.
Name, Height, Occupation, Relationship (if any) and Last Seen.
Next we were asked to write as the murderer who needed to send a cryptic message to her accomplices, in the form of an acrostic poem.
Danger travels the halls,
Even in the summer.
Chill in the freezer, but not for too long.
Eat the frozen berries, but not the mango ones.
Maintain a 2cm distance from your head and the door,
Bare in mind the five boxes, to the left, on the floor.
Early bird catches the worm...
Right?
We were then tasked to bring the Newsletter clippings, Fact File and Acrostic poem together in a 15-minute free write.
Katie shared a murder mystery scene from the two protagonists of her own fantasy book, Libby's story focused on a sarcastic detective determined to understand his elusive killer, and Holly's explored a man who filled in potholes and was murdered by somehow being turned into a speed bump.
By request from Libby and Ella, next weeks session will be on STRUCTURE so bring your best idea and we'll learn how to shape them.
