Room 101

I stood in for Harley and assisted Ali Sparkes with the Creative Writers group. The subject matter was Room 101, drawing on Orwell’s 1984. Room 101 is the ultimate torture chamber, a place where individuals are forced to confront their deepest fears and phobias.

Ali asked the group what (or who) their three worst things are, and obviously, we were advised to keep it light for entertainment purposes! After considering this carefully, we wrote our best argument for why our least favourite things should be in Room 101. Ali considered our points and decided whether they made it into the box.

In the first round, scrambled eggs, vaping on buses, and vegan botherers were discussed. In the second round, road men and chavs, gaps, and tomato ketchup were debated. Finally, philistines, gravy, and men who ‘help’ me to park were considered for the dreaded Room 101.

The writers created compelling arguments, and most items successfully entered the Room 101 box. The question has to be… what would be in your Room 101 and why?
