Happy New Year!

Happy new year!

We began today’s session with a ‘fill-in fun’ as we often do, this one was about New Year's resolutions. You can see an example at the end of the blog. A lot of New Year's resolutions were written on walls, graffiti onto walls, written with lipstick, the list goes on!

Jem wrote about a graffiti artist caught in the act by a strange girl… then he was attacked by an animal, only to wake up in bed the next day not knowing his resolutions any more.

Next, we had a test of patience with some number crunching sentences using the new year ‘2026’ to write a story of four sentences, about what you HOPE will happen in 2026. The first must be ten words long. The second must be one word. The third must be 20 words. The fourth must be 26 words.

What everyone HOPED to happen was very different. Milo was interested in war's ending, and Erifyli wanted to focus on learning how to ice skate. The older group hoped the political climate would improve.

Now onto THE RACE.

Ali sparked our curiosity on the subject of ‘races’ by asking each group to shout a word that came to mind.

Here are some examples:

Sabotage

Fog

Determination

Blu-Tak

Necessary

Fun

Then each group wrote a story about a race, using the words as inspiration.

Subhan wrote a short story that went like this: The race was meant to be fast & furious, but instead it was slow & serious.

Sophie wrote about a girl who was no good at races; she kept losing, and losing. But one day, she was called into the principal's office as a last resort; she had to race as part of a fundraiser to save the school.

For the older group, we had one race story from the point of view of a Guinea pig, a very surprising and fun take!

Writers of the week were:

Young Writers: Sophie

Junior Writers: Lana
