Detective Writing

It’s the final session of the term! We were saying goodbye to one of our writers as she heads off to university, and we wish her the best of luck on her journey. To celebrate our time together, our theme of the day was mystery novels, a shared love of the group.

We began with a fill in fun before moving onto Ali’s “design a detective” sheet, where our writers created a detective of their own. You can see the criteria that needed to be decided upon in the photos at the end of the blog, as well as what people came up with!

Our writers skewed towards Victorian and Edwardian-era characters, both of whom had the ability to tell when someone was lying. They then wrote an introductory piece to their character: one had their cat sidekick delivering them a letter which began ‘if you are reading this I am dead’, the other piece was written from the sidekick’s point of view, finding the bird-loving detective breaking up a sandwich for a pigeon.

It was a lovely way to end the term, and we look forward to coming back next semester for even more writing fun!
