WORDCUP - Hounsdown Session #6

We are in full preparation for the Local Poetry Showcase next week as part Apples and Snakes’ WORDCUP. The Hounsdown young poets will be performing in space with cohorts from Romsey School, who will also be sharing group and individual poems on the theme of ‘Bearing Witness’. It will be the first sharing of the WORDCUP poems for the groups, as well as a space to warm up and get into performance mode ahead of our trip to Manchester.

The aim of today is to finish up the drafts of the group poems and start embedding our performance techniques. We're tweaking the language, delving into rhythm decisions and the arc of the poems. We can use performance to further hone the words of the poems, and soon, each group is sharing their lines together, speaking on ‘The Last Tree’ and ‘The Unknown’, getting into the musicality and pacing of group performance. It’s great to see them work so respectfully with each other and make suggestions as to the direction the poems can take.

It’s going to be a beautiful exercise bringing this group work from the classroom to the centre stage on the 4th July at MAST Mayflower Studios.
