Mission: Possible, Actually

It was all about the boxes today. Ali blasted us with the Mission: Impossible theme as she gave each of our writers a small box with their mission inside - their task for the evening.


Our writers had to create an opening scene where three characters were in a room (though they were reassured that their message wouldn’t self-destruct in five seconds). Each prompt varied slightly, and we had the following trios:


  • Bursting to tell a secret; desperately hungry; an animal

  • Wants to kill; hiding a terrible toothache; an animal

  • In love; plotting a crime; an animal


Our writers set up scenes of unusual human-lizard parents attending a school performance meeting on behalf of their child, and a murderous run-in at a vet.


Ali gave everyone their second prompt - a freak weather event changing everything, and a line they needed to include in their dialogue. After writing on this, our writers got their third and final mission, to go and collect an item from the box of wonder. This item would change everything in their story!
