Fabulous February

Our Junior Writers have been fabulous in February and Amelia and I have loved getting creative with the group exploring some of the themes below:

Week one

The group set their creative minds to creating
their own Anthropological animal characters - animals with human-like
characteristics from walking upright and talking to wearing clothes and feeling
human emotions. These were inspired by some of their favourite human like animal
characters from books and films, from Mickey and Mini Mouse and Beatrix Potter’s
Peter rabbit to Sponge Bob Square pants and Roald Dahl’s ‘The Giraffe and the
Pelly and me’.

Some of the students shared their fabulous stories with the
group with tales of Ru the dog skateboarding to the shop for his favourite croissant
shaped dog treats and Jelly, Peanut and Butter the jellyfish and their strained
living arrangements to Timmy the crazy dog caught by his owner trying on his cool
clothes in the mirror!

Week two

Our students had a brilliant time writing
a story from the perspective of one of their favourite objects … with a catch! Our writers were stopped every 5 minutes and given a random prompt to weave into
their stories, resulting in some unexpected twists and turns for our irritated iPads,
poorly treated pens and pencils, talking teddies and blooming lovely flowers!

Week three

Week three found us ‘Stuck in a Lift’ with 4
characters - a psychic, a ballet dancer, a CBBC presenter and a rocket scientist. The group were to write the first few paragraphs of their story and were asked to think about where their lift would be and how each
character would respond to each other in this situation. Each writer did a fantastic job bringing their characters to life and we joined the characters on adventures
in an amazing array of venues from New York and the Eiffel Tower to shopping at
West Quay lifts and being stuck in an airport lift.

Roll on March - where we hope to bring you examples of some of the work our amazing junior writers have produced so far this year.
