Junior & Young Writers: Week 4 - Play on Words

In today's session we explored myth, poetry, and performance to get ready for the showcase.

We started off with a check in: Describe your week as a meal?

Henry- suspicious food (too many episodes of the traitors)

Evan- mac and cheese, a good week!

Catherine- a never ending meal

One person starts by saying a simple statement (e.g. “It’s raining outside!”).

The next person repeats the same line, but expresses it using a different emotion, for example, happy, sad, angry, scared, or excited. Keep passing it around the circle, with each person choosing a new emotion or exaggerating one that’s already been used!

Then we focused on on a writing exercise using myths and legends as our inspiration. We wrote about how a God or creature from the past may feel if they had woken up in today’s society.

With our creativity flowing we looked at two poems and had a go at writing and performing our own!

We performed our poems and reflected on our performances and gave feedback to each other. This was a lovely exercise and got us thinking ready for our Showcase.

Our Junior writers focused on planning their performance around their Cake Cult world and characters. How they’ll present as a collective!

This was a really fun and inspiring session

Keep writing!
