Term 3 Week 2 - "Characters Talking to Each Other"

A really lively Session thinking about writing dialogue as part of a narrative.

We started by thinking up characters, writing them down and then folding them up to create a 'lucky dip' in the centre of the table.

Our first task didn't involve writing, but speaking instead; taking a character each at random we 'acted' out scenarios in pairs, finding out how our random characters might talk to each other and what they might have to say.

Our second task was similar but this time, in silence we took it in turns to write the dialogue - a line each - creating a conversation on the page.

After the break, the task was extended, this time working on your own to develop a longer piece with two characters; one was to be the protagonist, and we took time to set the scene, and include thoughts and observations from the main character's perspective, as well as dialogue with another character.

Some really beautiful pieces were created and a homework set to continue the stories to see where the characters' journeys took them!
