Wednesday 22 June 2022 NEWRITE Young Writer Lead and Assistant required

ArtfulScribe and Forest Arts Centre (operated by Hampshire Cultural Trust) are looking to appoint a versatile writer/facilitator to lead Forest Arts Young Writers and Junior Writers’ Club. Weekly term-time sessions will take place at Forest Arts Centre in New Milton on Saturday mornings from 16 September 2023. These sessions will be split to accommodate age groups 7-10 years and 11-14 years and will run from 9.30-11am and 11.30-1pm.

The Lead Facilitator will be capable of planning sessions that encourage, inspire, motivate, and develop young writers through engagement with a wide range of approaches, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and prose. The writer/facilitator will be supported by a project manager and will work alongside an assistant who will provide administration, evaluation, and marketing support.

As well as being a talented writer, the writer/facilitator will be energetic, dynamic, inspiring and passionate. A provable track record of workshop delivery and publication/professional experience is also desired, along with an engaging and confident approach to public speaking as a capable support for Young Writers at any live events in the city.

In the first instance, applicants are invited to submit an expression of interest detailing why they feel they are the right candidate for the job, along with an overview to a year-long approach that takes into account differing ages and levels of ability, showing a clear engagement with a broad cross-section of writing genres and styles. The outline should be oriented towards specific term-time goals. Applicants are free to propose other strategies that meet the engagement criteria with the understanding that Young Writers sessions need to be able to accommodate new members. An up-to-date CV detailing relevant experience is also required.

This is an excellent portfolio opportunity for a writer to raise their public profile and gain valuable experience working in an environment that supports a diverse community and values young voices.  Remuneration is £90-120 per weekly session, depending on age and experience. The assistant rate is £45 per weekly session.
