A First Class Opportunity for Young Writers in Dorset

28 February 2019

ArtfulScribe have appointed Tabitha Hayward to the role of Young Writers’ Lead Facilitator at Lighthouse, in Poole, as part of the DO:Write project. Tabby arrives with a First Class degree in English from the University of Oxford and has publication credits in The Isis, and The Missing Slate as well as being recipient of the Graham Midgley Memorial Prize for Poetry in 2015 and 2017.  Offering considerable experience in workshop leadership at undergrad level and editing through her role as Editor-in-Chief of The Gallery, Tabby will lead two groups of writers, aged 11-14 years and 15-18 years on Saturdays during term-time at Lighthouse, starting on 9th March 2019.

ArtfulScribe director, Matt West, said:

‘It’s great to be able to offer this role to a recent graduate we feel has incredible potential to inspire new work and encourage the next generation of writers in the region.  This appointment underlines ArtfulScribe’s commitment to empower, support and develop writers at all stages of their careers and it seems particularly fitting that Lighthouse Young Writers should be led by someone under the age of 25.  Tabby’s energy and passion for writing is infectious and I’m really looking forward to seeing how both groups progress in the future.’

Tabitha Hayward said:

I am so excited to be a part of the wonderful work which ArtfulScribe does to encourage and support young writers and feel really privileged to have been entrusted with this important role, to help young writers in Dorset to develop their writing and unleash their creativity. The Lighthouse Young Writers Programme is something I would have loved to have attended myself when I was younger, and I am really looking forward to getting to know the young writers and being a part of their creative progression. I can’t wait to get started!

Lighthouse Poole Deputy CEO, Sara St George said:

Young Writers is a key part of the Lighthouse learning programme, enabling young people to develop their skills and their confidence and to prepare them for their future careers.  We are delighted to be working with Artfulscribe and Tabitha on such an exciting project and look forward to seeing the work the groups develop over the coming months.

Arts University Bournemouth Creative Writing BA student Lucy Pearce will join the Lighthouse Young Writers' delivery team as assistant facilitator.

Lighthouse Young Writers’ groups are free to join and welcome writers of all levels and abilities, from those who may just be curious about writing to people with more experience.  For further information please visit www.artfulscribe.co.uk or contact Perdie Bargh, Creative Engagement Officer at Lighthouse Poole: Perdie.Bargh@lighthousepoole.co.uk
