Writer in Residence vacancy at Poole Museums

08 November 2019

ArtfulScribe and Poole Museums are excited to announce a new vacancy for a Writer in Residence to work with Poole Museum staff, local residents and visitors from January 2020 as part of the Do:Write Literature Development Project in Dorset.

Poole Museums are inviting proposals from writers who are seeking to develop their practice through working in a heritage environment and collaborating with multigenerational communities. The Writer in Residence will need to creatively work with existing collections and touring exhibitions, engaging with staff, setting, and visitors and be confident in a public setting. They will also be advocates for the role museums can play in inspiring, challenging and stimulating visitors and local people.

The residency will take place at Poole Museum and is on the basis of one day per week for a year (January – December 2020). A final delivery schedule will be agreed between the Writer in Residence and Poole Museums upon appintment.

Poole Museums are at a pivotal point as they embark on a major capital project to transform existing spaces to meet the needs of increasingly wider audiences.

Poole Museums are also the lead partner in the Wessex Museums Partnership. In 2020 we will be undertaking work towards creating a joint exhibition about Thomas Hardy’s Wessex.

The successful proposal will engage with the above and the project outcomes will be documented for public display or shared in a museum setting.

Application deadline is 25th November 2019. Short-listed candidates will be invited to attend an interview on Wednesday 11th December.
