ArtfulScribe and Stacie Bates are casting a female actor (mid-30s) & a male actor (mid-50s) for the poetic audio drama ‘Before Alice’.
Synopsis: ‘Before Alice’ is the story of Alice, a reserved, sweet-natured yet unexpectedly dynamic woman who, after a stint as a botanist, decides to leave the pressurised world of academia to open her own plant and flower shop in the market town where she grew up. Due to open doors for the first time tomorrow, worries about her social awkwardness flare up and she confides in her only companion - her favourite plant cactus. Alice’s past seems to haunt her in unexpected bursts. She must trust in nature - it is what she knows and what she loves… She must make this work before she becomes trapped by her past…
Casting -
Alice: Early 30s female. Conversational in tone, softly spoken, engaging, funny in a self-deprecating way, a sense that she is hiding something.
Cactus: Mid-50s male. Comforting, articulate, poetic, confident speaker, controlled pace and even tone, warm.
We are keen to hear from actors based in the S/E & S/W Regions of England.
Recording: The recording of Before Alice will take place in person at ArtfulScribe’s office, MAST Mayflower Studios, Southampton, UK. Dates TBC but recording is slated for end of March/early April.
Fee: A fixed day rate of £125 + £10 for travel + £5 per diems.
Please submit an audio recording of you reading a poem / prose / script of your choice, between 1-5 mins in length. Audio/showreels and agented submissions welcome. The casting process is tiered – after the general callout, actors will be shortlisted and then asked to record & submit a short reading (1 minute max.) of material from the audio play to finalise decisions.
