Writing the Solent

What's it all about?

Writing the Solent is an 18-month multi-strand literature development and delivery programme, serving writers, those who may not yet think of themselves as writers, and audiences in Southampton, Portsmouth, and the Isle of Wight.

Offering a wide range of opportunities including workshops for children and young people aged 7-10, 11-14, and 15-18, writing for wellbeing sessions, women's writing groups, writing as spiritual practice sessions, an annual literature festival, writers' days, and open mic, this project builds on a legacy of delivery since 2012.

Current work also includes hosting a literature development network, commissioning a regional survey of writers and associated organisations, and developing new relationships in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight through tailored offers for children and young people, mentoring sponsorship, and supporting local people as change makers in their communities.
