Lucy Mellors is an award-winning theatre maker, writer and opera singer from Southampton. She also works as a comedy consultant, co-writer, facilitator and performer, and is the co-founder of Gosport Creates, a participatory arts programme for women in Gosport.
From 2022-25 her show It is I, Seagull toured around the UK and to Australia, earning five-star reviews, a ‘Best of Theatre 2025’ award at the Adelaide Fringe and baffling some people who didn’t expect to watch someone singing Queen of the Night dressed as a cosmonaut, eating steak and pissing everywhere... but that's art! Or maybe it is, she's not really sure.
Lu’s second show IS OPERA BORING? was created in collaboration with boogie-woogie pianist Mark Hoare as a celebration of music, joy and intergenerational and cross-genre friendship. It has toured on and off from 2023, whenever fig rolls are in season…
Lu was co-writer and co-director of The Jane Austen Fan Club, a show about deep Jane Austen fandom and the gender economic gap. Co-created with Victoria Briggs, it toured in spring 2026 to rave reviews and will return in 2027.
Lu has also written for HOME Theatre (with Mayflower Studios and Southampton Forward), and was commissioned by the Mayflower Ensemble to rewrite and perform the narrative to Martinu's horny kitchen utensil drama La Revue de Cuisine at the Turner Sims Concert Hall in 2025. She is currently working on her next solo show Sexy But Psycho, a comedy about love, power, trauma, abuse, Taylor Swift and cats (also touring in 2027), and is in the initial writing stage for Endgame: The Unofficial Traitors Opera.
Gosport Creates is run by Lu, Yasmin Stephens and Jemma Corbin, and organises fun, accessible and welcoming creative workshops, performances and exhibitions that celebrate play, exploration and community in a variety of locations across Gosport.
Lu loves cats, plants, and the movie Titanic.
