Claire Hillier

Lead Facilitator, New Forest Young Writers

Claire Hillier is a poet, creative writing BA graduate and spoken word artist. She was born in St Helens, and grew up in a working-class household in Winchester.

In 2021 Claire self-published her first solo collection, Coffee on a Bench, which became an Amazon no.1 bestseller. She was Shortlisted for the Southbank Centre New Poets Collective in 2022. In 2023 she made the poetry slam finals at 3 UK festivals: WOMAD, We Out Here, and Purbeck Valley Folk Festival.

Also in 2023 Claire was a member of the Big Girls Village ‘women writing lockdown’ project, this culminated in a performance of her poetry at WOMAD festival, and in a showcase at The House Of Commons.

She became an Assistant Poetry Coach at the Apples & Snakes National WORDCUP 2023, and a creative writing workshop facilitator with Artfulscribe. She has supported the world slam champion, and performed with the Tongue Fu band.

Her poems have been published in anthologies: Contemplations of life in 2050 (Anthology), Breaking Barriers (anthology), and Vortex (Magazine).

Nomadic by nature, she has lived in Brighton and Stroud. Like most poets, she can't drive. Claire is now based in Bournemouth, and can be found walking along the beach.
