Creative Writing Workshops with Shakti Southampton: Inspiring and Supporting Asian Women
Creative writing workshops in partnership with Shakti Southampton, offering a writing space for Asian women who are new to writing as well as those with more experience. If this sounds like you and you'd like to experiment with words, share ideas, tell stories and celebrate your voice, come along!
Workshops will be led by Judith Heneghan, writer, lecturer and creative writing mentor. Judith has been teaching creative writing in a range of settings for over twenty years. Judith writes novels for adults and has also written extensively for young readers.
More about Shakti:
Empowerment begins with connection, education, and challenging barriers—this is the driving force behind Shakti: Women Empowerment, a community initiative dedicated to uplifting Asian women. Many women in our communities face social isolation, digital exclusion, and cultural stigma, limiting their opportunities for growth and independence. Shakti is here to change that. By fostering social inclusion, Shakti creates safe spaces where women can build friendships and support networks. Through digital literacy programs, it equips them with essential skills to navigate modern life, whether for employment, entrepreneurship, or accessing public services. Most importantly, Shakti tackles deep-rooted social stigma, empowering women to challenge cultural taboos and advocate for themselves.
How to book
Workshops run as follows:
Friday group: 30 Oct, 20 and 27 Nov
Saturday group: 31 Oct, 21 and 28 Nov
There are two groups, one on Fridays and one on Saturdays, each offering three sessions. We ask if possible you come to one group or the other - you can book individual sessions or all three at once by choosing the first date. However, if you'd like to book for just one session to try it out, have missed the first session and want to join late, or need to switch between groups, you are also welcome to do so.
