Free Character Design workshop with author Yarrow Townsend

Do you dream of being a writer, film-maker or comic book artist? Do you like inventing characters and want to know how to make them even better?

Join author and artist Yarrow Townsend for an exciting workshop to perfect your character design skills.

Using Southampton City Library’s Comic Book collection for inspiration, Yarrow will share tips for designing original characters and telling amazing stories. You’ll then get hands-on with your own designs!

By the end of the workshop you’ll have created:

- a drawing of your character

- a character fact-file

- the opening of your story, ready to start writing at home!

This workshop is for children aged 8-12, accompanied by an adult. The workshop is free, but advanced booking is required. If you are not able to attend, please cancel your place so that others do not miss out. You can attend this workshop even if you do not yet feel confident reading and writing.

Yarrow Townsend is the author of A Ship in the Dark and The Map of Leaves (which was shortlisted for the prestigious Branford Boase Award). She runs workshops in schools, colleges and libraries and loves scribbling in her notebook to dream up new characters.
